一篇TOP期刊论文小修，编辑说图片太多，导致字数超过规定字数，要我适当删减字数或者减少图片的数量。 "You may reduce the actual number of words or consider reducing the number of figure panels."
有几个问题想请教一下：
（1）编辑说：“I recommend that the authors modify their manuscript following the reviewers comments, shorten the number of figures by consolidation, and if they are inclined they can submit a revised manuscript with a response. ” 论文里有些独立的figures可以改成插图（比如性能图），有些就不行（比如XRD和SEM）。现在的问题是：论文里有两组SEM图片，总共10张，审稿的时候是单独上传的，这样就占去了1000个字数（每张图片等价于100个字数），想请教各位，在这种情况下，如果将4张SEM图片组合成一张图片，组合之后的等价字数是400还是100呢？
