PhD (or Master) Assistantship – Bioenergy

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Mississippi State
University is seeking two PhD (or master) students. The PhD (or master) research will involve
biomass gasification, coal gasification, natural gas reforming, syngas cleaning, syngas
compression processes and catalytic conversion (such as Fischer–Tropsch process).
The research team members have unique expertise in the fields of biomass pretreatment,
fast pyrolysis and gasification, bio-oil fractionation, bio-oil hydrodeoxygenation, and syngas to
hydrocarbon catalytic conversion. The research program offers interdisciplinary research
opportunities on biomass thermal chemical processing and bio-fuel upgrading. The selected
graduate research assistant will be offered a research assistantship with tuition and health
insurance benefit.
The candidate should have bachelor’s degree/s in agricultural and biological engineering,
chemistry, chemical engineering, or related area. Previous experiences in thermal chemical
conversion, metal catalyst preparation and tubular reactor processing are desirable but not

Postdoctoral research associate – Bioenergy

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Mississippi State
University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate. The postdoctoral research will be
involved to perform coal gasification and catalytic conversion (such as Fischer–Tropsch process).
The research team members have unique expertise in the fields of process design,
experimental analysis, catalyst development, and process control. The research program offers
interdisciplinary research opportunities on biomass gasification and syngas catalytic processing.
The selected postdoctoral research associate will supervise graduate students, write grant
proposals to secure extramural funding for program, and establish strong record of publications.
The candidate should have PhD degree/s in agricultural and biological engineering,
chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related areas. A strong background in Fischer–
Tropsch process is required. Interested qualified applicants are encouraged to send his/her
resume, copies of transcripts, and three current references with an application letter to Dr. Fei Yu

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a Mississippi State
