研究中心很不错 Further Information Purpose and Main Duties The Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development, (CBCD, www.cbcd.bbk.ac.uk), Department of Psychological Sciences, is seeking a postdoctoral scientist to contribute to the planning, running and management of a programme of research on infants and toddlers with Down’s syndrome (DS), as part of an interdisciplinary research project, which aims to examine the link between Alzheimer’s disease and Down’s syndrome. Adults with Down’s syndrome are at greater risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) than the general population and onset tends to occur at an earlier age. One of the reasons for this is believed to be the fact that one of the key genes implicated in Alzheimer’s – the amyloid beta (A4) precursor protein, or APP gene – is found on chromosome 21. This gene is overexpressed in individuals with Down’s syndrome, who carry three copies of this chromosome. Although all individuals with Down’s syndrome develop plaques and tangles typical of the brains of individuals with AD in the general population, only 50% of them go on to display the clinical symptoms. The project aims to elucidate these individual differences in young and older adults, but also importantly in infancy. The postdoc would be responsible for the infant cognitive neuroscience aspects of the multidisciplinary project, engaging in regular interaction with the different contributing disciplines (mouse models, genetics, cell biology, psychiatry, adult and infant cognitive neuroscience). A particular challenge will be to approximate as closely as possible the infant tasks with those used with adults and in mouse models. Candidate Requirements A clear commitment to the importance of interdisciplinary research plus very good project management skills and prior experience are required. A strong research background in neurdevelopmental disorders, assessing endophenotypes, experience with infant ERP/EEG, eye-tracking and/or infant behavioural experiments, administering standardised clinical assessments, and excellent statistical skills are also required. Knowledge of genetics, cellular biology, psychiatry and neuroscience would be an advantage. Knowledge of sign language or Makaton for communicating with very young children with neurodevelopmental disorders would also be an asset. Experience with imparting complex research findings to the general public is also desirable Salary: Grade 7. Starting salary of £33,966 (including London Allowance of £2,946 per annum) This job is a full-time, fixed term post available from 15th January 2013 to 14 January 2015 in the first instance. The initial salary award will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
