In alkaloids cell toxic mechanism research, alkaloids cells with methylene-dioxy groups present better DNA double helix thermal denaturation stabilizing effect than the cells without methylene-dioxy groups, and inhibit the activity of topoisomerase I via DNA intercalation, this may be one reason why the alkaloids with methylene-dioxy groups have stronger cytotoxicity.
