Dear Dr. Colleagues,

You and your colleagues are cordially invited to submit abstracts for presentation at the “Photocatalytic and Photoelectrochemical Nanomaterials for Sustainable Energy Symposium”, during the upcoming 2012 International Materials Research Congress, to be held in Cancun, Mexico, from August 12 to 17, 2012.

The Congress is sponsored jointly by Materials Research Society (MRS) and Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM). For more information about the Congress as well as the Symposium (3B), please visit the website https://www.mrs.org/imrc2012/.

Symposium 3B. Photocatalytic and Photoelectrochemical Nanomaterials for Sustainable Energy

This symposium aims to bring researchers together to report and discuss nanomaterial and device design for high-efficiency solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion systems. This is a dynamic and multidisciplinary field of research involving materials science, physics, chemistry, and engineering. Recent advances in photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry, both at fundamental and applied levels, will be highlighted by invited speakers. Talks will report on the latest results and development of nanomaterials for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting from the perspectives of physics, chemistry, and engineering. Among the important topics of increasing interest are theoretical studies of charge-transport properties, band structure, semiconductor chemistry and physics of materials, and kinetic analysis in photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical processes. The topics of this symposium will also cover new nanomaterial synthesis, thin films, nanostructure and nanoheterostructure design, device and system performance measurements.

Symposium topics will include:

• Fundamental research on photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry
• Development of new photocatalysts and photoelectrodes
• Nanostructure design for photocatalysts and photoelectrodes
• Nanoheterostructures for photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry
• Photoelectrochemical cells and devices
• Photocatalytic reactors and systems
• Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting for hydrogen production
• Evaluation of photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical materials
