Hiahia~~ |

Web of Science® Notices Version 7.10 Upgrade News (January 2007) New Features (Added January 2007) Features Added in Past Releases Journal Title Changes in Web of Science System-Related Issues Browser-Related Issues Chemistry-Related Issues Thomson Scientific Customer Technical Support -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Features (Added January 2007) Author Full Name For records of articles published in 2006 and later, you may see two versions of an author name in the Author field of the Full Record. For example, in earlier records you would see: Diaz, G. In newer records you will see: Diaz, G (Diaz, Gregorio). Distinct Author Identification System The Distinct Author identification feature now includes a page of distinct author sets, which you can access by clicking the name of an author on a page of summary results. The Distinct Author identification system uses citation data to create sets of papers likely written by the same author. This system reduces the ambiguity of authorship that can happen when different researchers share the same name. Top of Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Journal Title Changes in Web of Science The Web of Science Journal Titles file includes new Web of Science® titles from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006. The file also includes journal title changes and bibliographic information. Top of Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Features Added in Past Releases Many new features have been added over the past year providing you with the capability to: The Citation Report provides aggregate citation statistics for a set of search results. It features the h-index, a unique metric that adjusts for over- and underweighting of citation data for individual papers in a set. The h-index was developed by J.E. Hirsch and published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 102 (46): 16569-16572 November 15 2005. Go to your EndNote Web library by clicking the EN Web icon that appears on the Summary and Full Record pages for each record that you previously saved to your library. You must be a registered user to use this feature. Import records into ResearchSoft desktop and Web applications using the field-delimited ISI ResearchSoft option for citation alerts. Perform a Topic and Title search by entering search terms in any order to retrieve every record containing all your search terms. To look for an exact phrase, use quotation marks. Refine your results from the Summary page to get a snapshot of all the records retrieved based on a particular concept, source title, author, or publication year. Refine your results using Results Analysis to drill down to those records of interest in order to gain insight into hidden trends, find the most prolific authors on a topic, or discover the latest publication trends on a topic. Export selected records to a library in EndNote, Reference Manager, or ProCite. Save selected records to your library in EndNote Web. Print, save, e-mail, and export records from the Summary and Full Record pages. Filter your results from the Summary page by entering new topic terms in the Search within Results text box. Perform a one-click search from the Full Record page to retrieve all records by a particular author or on a particular term. Top of Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- System Requirements Operating System Browser Windows 2000 or Windows XP Microsoft® Internet Explorer, version 6.0 (or higher) Mozilla Firefox, version 1.0 (or higher) Mozilla Browser, version 1.7.12 (or higher) Mac OS X 10.3 (or higher) Safari, version 1.0 (or higher) Mozilla Firefox, version 1.0 (or higher) Mozilla Browser, version 1.7.12 (or higher) Top of Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- System-Related Issues Searching for Names That Are Stopwords To search on the name Or, Not, Same, enclose the name in quotation marks (e.g., "Same-Ekobo" .Searching for Names Selected from the Author Index Be aware that when selecting names from the Author Index, the product may return more records than what is reported in the Records column. For example, suppose the Records column displays 2 records for the name Simon. If you return to the search page and run a search on Simon (without using any other search criteria), the product is likely to retrieve more than 2 records. This happens because the product finds records not only for Simon, but also for Simon A, Simon G, Simon S, and so on. To restrict the search results, enter information in other fields. For example, if known, enter the author's initials and address or enter topic terms on the subject matter for which the author is known. Note: This issue only occurs when you select names from the index that do not contain initials. For example, Simon B will retrieve the actual number of records that appear in the Records column. Creating Citation Alerts In some instances the Create Citation Alerts button may not display on the Full Record page. This is because there is insufficient data. The button only displays where sufficient data is available in the database. If you create a citation alert for a record in Web of Science, but you have already created a citation alert for the same record in Web of Science, the product will display only one instance of the record on your My Cited Articles list. If you click the title link, the system will take you to the record in Web of Science only. Sorting Records from the Marked Records Page You can sort records by Latest Date, First Author, and Source Title from the Marked Records page. You cannot, however, sort by Relevance. Searching for Oregon in the Address Field When searching for records that contain the state abbreviation OR (for Oregon), always enclose the state name in quotation marks (e.g., "OR" . If you just enter OR, you will get an error message.Internal Wildcard in General Search and Cited Author Search If a user performs a General Search (of primary or secondary authors) or a Cited Author search (of secondary authors) for the period 1965-1974, and the search term contains an internal asterisk (*), then the author names will be retrieved if the wildcard represents only one character (not where it represents no characters or more than one character). Retrieval of Truncated Secondary Authors A truncated secondary author from a pre-1965 reference cannot be retrieved when using more than an eight-character version of the name. Users must search the eight-character version of the secondary author to retrieve the reference. Related Records When viewing Related Records for an item with more than 60 cited references, the resulting Related Records - Summary page may not be sorted in an exact order by the number of shared references. Top of Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Browser-Related Issues If you use a Macintosh and your Web browser is Safari 1.0, you will not see an error message if you perform a search that provokes a timeout. If you have wait more than three minutes for search results, return to the Search page and refine your query. Because of the large number of Safari releases, we have been unable to test them all extensively. Other issues may arise with this browser. Top of Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chemistry-Related Issues Using the Chemistry Plug-in on a Macintosh The chemistry plug-in will not work on a Macintosh running OS X (OS 10). If you are using a Macintosh with OS X, please download and install IE for OS 9. This application will run in Macintosh Classic Mode and the plug-in will operate correctly. We have noted frequent problems with the download of the Macintosh plug-in for Netscape 6.0 and 6.1 in all OS versions. Please use a later version of Netscape to avoid any problems. Browser-Related Issues You cannot print compounds and reactions using your browser's File/Print option or Print button. To print a compound or reaction, right-click inside the reaction box, and then select Print. Saving Structure Searches A saved structure search created on a computer with the chemistry plug-in installed will not run correctly if opened on a computer without the plug-in installed. If you want to run a saved structure search on a computer different from the one you used when you saved the search, please be sure to install the plug-in. Broadening Searches On the Advanced Search or Search History page, attempts to broaden a chemistry structure search (e.g., one week to all years) by changing the depth and resubmitting the search set number will generate incorrect results. Instead, please change the search depth and then return to the Structure Search page to resubmit the search query. Compound Names Containing Stopwords Some compound names containing stopwords such as the suffix A will not retrieve any hits. For example, Polyandrocarpamine A will not retrieve hits, but Polyandrocarpamine B will retrieve hits. Search for Polyandrocarpamine (without the suffix) to retrieve Polyandrocarpamine A as well as Polyandrocarpamine B. Saved Searches Timing Out Re-loading saved search histories with complex reactions or compounds or combinations thereof with bibliographic searches will likely time-out when run for All Years. If you encounter this problem, try saving the search with a smaller time span. Ring Searches Ring searching may retrieve extra hits from molecules with complex rings systems, for example C60 (Buckyball). These hits will lack highlighting. G-group Searches G-group searches performed against multiple years may time out the server. Try running the search against a smaller range of years. Records from a Reaction Search The author address field is missing from full records retrieved from a structure search. Author addresses will be included if the records are saved, exported, or e-mailed. You can also view the author address if you retrieve the same records via general or advanced search.
