6th International Workshop on
Marine Environmental Change of the South China Sea
The Second Announcement



Background：

The physical climate condition of the marginal seas has received much attention dueto issues related to global climate

change and regional sustainable development. The South China Sea is the largest marginal sea in the northwestern

Pacific Ocean. Regarding its significance, the South China Sea is important not only for the fishery and oil industry in China

and its other surrounding nations but also for the role of its tropical water in Southeast Asian climate and weather.

Geographically, the South China Sea is connected with the Pacific Ocean through the Luzon Strait to its east, and it reaches

the Indian Ocean  through the Malacca Strait. As a channel of the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea

is the region where the Indian monsoon and the East Asian monsoon meet, so it is highly relevant to the global climate change.

As a result, the climate condition  of the South China Sea has attracted much attention from oceanographers and climatologists

all over the world. For this conference, experts in the field are invited to discuss some  key issues related to the two meeting themes.  

    This workshop is aimed to display the latest development on marine environmental  change research of the South China Sea, contribute

to the international and region  cooperating study in the South China Sea and Tropic ocean environmental subject,  and improve its talent

development strategy. We will discuss the important progress on marine climate and environment research in South China Sea,

and devote to  strengthen international exchanges and cooperation.  


Theme：Marine Climate and Environmental Research of the South China Sea

1. Impact of ocean circulation in South China Sea for climate change  

(Organizer: Ms. Zhaodi   zhaodi@scsio.ac.cn)

2. Ecology of the South China Sea: Health, Integrity and Management  

(Organizer: Ms. Zu Tingting   zutt@scsio.ac.cn)

3. Health management of regional ecosystem in South China Sea

(Organizer: Ms. Shen Pingping  pshen@scsio.ac.cn)

4. Research on pollution of sediments in South China Sea

(Organizer: Mr. Xu Weihai  whxu2002@163.com)

Agenda:

Registration and abstract submission deadline: Oct. 31st , 2011

The date of checking in: Dec.3rd .2011

Meeting dates: Dec. 4th -5th .2011
