Dear Colleague,
It is a great pleasure for me to invite you to participate in the First International Conference on Railway Technology: Research, Development and Maintenance (Railways 2012), which will take place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain from 18-20 April 2012.  This conference, organised by Civil-Comp Press, follows on from the very successful special sessions organised at previous Civil-Comp Conferences.

The purpose of this Conference is to provide opportunities for scientists and engineers to meet and to discuss current research, new concepts and ideas and to establish opportunities for future collaborations in all aspects of Railway Technology.

We invite you to participate in this Conference and to contribute to any mini-symposium of your scientific interest. We also welcome proposals for the organization of special sessions on emergent or interdisciplinary topics. Proposals for special sessions may be sent to the Conference Editor by email (railways2012 AT civil-comp.com).

The topics for this congress have been organized into six main areas:
1) Rolling Stock
2) Infrastructure
3) Energy and Environment
4) Signalling and communication
5) Operations
6) Strategies and Economics

As you know, the papers presented at Railways 2012 represent the latest developments from universities, research centres and industry in the field of Railway Technology and I hope you will be able to present your recent work.

Proposals for the organization of special sessions on emergent or interdisciplinary topics are also welcome. IMPORTANT DATES:
Abstract submission:                   1 September 2011 (earlier submission is advised)
Notification of abstract decision: 1 October 2011
Full paper deadline:                      Advised by conference editor in abstract acceptance email
Last day for author registrations: 1 February 2012
Programme is released:                1 April 2012
The conference:                            18-20 April 2012
