BSA will coat the tube walls, preventing the template from being absorbed. This will reduce the frequency of primer dimers that occurs when the template concentration is low. BSA is also used to reduce the inhibition caused by humic acid contaminants.

Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is ideal for stabilization of enzymes during storage and for enzymatic reactions where the absence of nucleases is essential. BSA increases PCR yields from low purity templates. It also prevents adhesion of enzymes to the reaction tubes and tip surfaces.
