Metal catalysts dispersed on acidic supports are preferred for selective ring-opening and a number of Group VIII metals have been reported to have good activity and selectivity for RO, including Rh, Ru, Ir, Pt, Pd/Pt and Pt/Ir . However, these metals are costly and have relatively low resistance to sulphur poisoning. In previous work, molybdenum carbide supported on zeolites of medium acidity were identified as potential alternatives to conventional supported Group VIII metal catalysts for RO . Subsequent studies showed that increased Mo2C loading decreased the catalyst acidity, as measured by temperature- programmed desorption of n-propylamine, and increased the Mo2C dispersion, as measured by XRD and XPS . |
