The completed structure consists of a tube of the inner pore and flanking subsidiary pores that open into a chamber on the outer valve face (Figure 14f). The chamber tapers to form the outer opening (Figure 14f). No details of portulae formation have been described in the literature, but these observations (Figure 14) suggest a highly controlled process involved in shaping the complicated structure.
