【Discussion】how much money to give is proper when others get married?

|
one student in my laboratory will get married in a week. as for the convention, i need to give him a red envelope. how much money should i give to him? do as others or give the right quantity with my ability? in this city, give money to the one to be married is called "sui_li". and it is very serious, at least 600RMB. as a student in school, to give those money is a diffcult thing to do although i have done once in September.however, it is not a good thing when they all give 600 while i give with my ability which is far less than it. i know i'll do as others in the end. but what for? in my opinon, i think "sui_li" should be a form to show my congratuations and wondeful wish to the new couple. now, it turns to be a heavy chain. to a student, 600yuan is a large number, i am not able to afford it. i do agree with you, it should be a form to show sincere wishes and congratulations, should not be a matter of the number of money.   if you give less than others, will the one who is going to marry understand you? |
