I do not know how much practical value for pure Ni, but theoretical it is interesting. In industry, metal oxides, such as Fe oxide, Co oxide, Ni oxide and W oxide, are often used to refine the grain structure after casting of Ni-based alloys. You would not see many papers in this area, because topics related to Ni, especially Ni-based super alloys, are usually commercial secrets.
