Dear Professor S,
I am a master student under supervision of Professor J, who told me that you were looking for a Ph.D. student with a biochemical or molecular biology background. I am greatly interested in this opportunity, and that is why I am writing to you.
During undergraduate study, I was well exposed to biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology and proteomics. In the second year of undergraduate study, I participated in the University’s program of student scientific innovation, and was actively involved as a student team leader in the projects of gene engineering and antibody engineering. During graduate study, I joined Professor J’s team and my project is enzyme clone expression, characterization and gene transformation of enzymatic molecules. All the above experiences have given me a good technical training in both theory and experimentation.
Now I am in my second year of graduate study. Your research activities, especially those concerning food allergen interest me greatly, and I strongly wish to do research in this area. If I could be given an opportunity to join in your group, I will be greatly honored. Now I am preparing to take the GRE test to be held next June, and making utmost effort to improve my English level.
