Within the Asia-Pacific region, the embedded system industry has exhibited year-on-year growth, to the point where it has become an important contributor to many regional economies. This has resulted in a growing need for highly-trained and skilled manpower to meet the insatiable demands of industry, leading to an emphasis on embedded systems in many Asia-Pacific universities. In addition, several Asia-Pacific nations, so long lagging behind Europe and the Americas, have emerged in recent years as major powerhouses of embedded systems R&D, both in industry and in academia. This backdrop led to the creation, in 2007, of a regional conference dedicated to embedded systems: APESER. In our fourth annual meeting we now aim to gather the embedded systems community together to discuss issues and challenges in this field.
