[交流] 【原创】关于访问学者J-1 visa 签证保证金问题已有4人参与

联系访问学者的实验组，今天老板回信说，根据最新的J-1 visa 签证需求，我需要每年至少有24000美元的奖学金（According to the current J-1 visa requirements, you need to have the minimum of $24,000 USD/year for yourself. ）。大家遇到过这种情况吗？有这个规定吗？国家提供的每月1150美元，至少差一半，大家有好的建议吗？

Dear Dr. xxx:

Thank you for your inquiry about a possibility for you to join my research laboratory as a visiting scholar, which will be fully supported by the China Scholarship Council.

Although my research laboratory is currently fully occupied, there will be some space from January 2011. Thus, I am happy to consider your application since your background will fit our research projects.

One of the concerns, however, is the amounts of financial support that the Chinese Scholarship Council provides. According to the current J-1 visa requirements, you need to have the minimum of $24,000 USD/year for yourself. If you want to bring your family, it costs more. Since the living cost in Long Island, New York is rather high, $24,000/year is the bare minimum for reasonable living. Thus, it is desirable for you to have a bit more stipends to spend. Please let me know if you can receive sufficient scholarship to meet the J-1 visa requirement. This is the very first step.

Also, please arrange recommendation letters in support of your application. You list only one reference, but I prefer to receive one more.
