When there is gene deletion or knockout, the acid-induced neuronal damage can be inhibited. The transfection of the gene would, however, rebuild its sensitivity. Studies have shown that in healthy animal brain tissues, neither decrease of the PH value to 6.5 nor ischemia alone causes any danage. But when ischemia and excessive acid are combined together, the toxicity would significantly increase, which results in obvious brain damage. |
