First of all, there are more than 60% physicists are in condensed matter physics. And more than half of them are studying many-body systems, either in theory or experiment. Second, physicist tends to simplify problems and explain phenomena by most basic and straightforward words. That is true, but every scientist want to use simplest principles to find answers. Third, chemistry indeed developed separately from physics. But this does not means chemistry is totally different subject with physics. As the development of physics and chemistry of 20th and 21th century, we can see more and more clearly, the basic principles of modern chemistry can all be traced from physics, and of course, chemists develop them to suitable to chemistry. Actually, physics and chemistry are same even though developed from different aspects of researches. More strictly, chemistry is part of physics, which study intensively in areas of molecules and ions. So chemists can be even called 'physicist' somehow. I see more and more physicists do some chemical work and some chemists work in fields of physics. |
