A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Sun Laboratory at the University of South Dakota Biomedical Engineering Program. Our group seeks to understand the underlying mechanism by which adult stem cell behaviors are regulated by micro-environmental cues during musculoskeletal tissue regeneration. Inspired by the fundamental findings in stem cell/developmental biology, we are devoted to developing novel biomimetic nanostructured biomaterials and local drug delivery-based translational strategies for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (for more information and recent publications please visit http://www.usd.edu/faculty-and-staff/Hongli-Sun).

A recent Ph.D. in materials/polymer science, chemical/biomedical engineering, or other closely related areas is required. Applicants with expertise in nanoparticle/biomaterials-based controlled local drug delivery (e.g., small molecules, and proteins/peptides), 3D polymeric porous scaffold/hydrogel fabrication, functionalization, and characterization, biodegradable polymer synthesis and modification study are highly encouraged to apply.

Experience/knowledge in bone tissue engineering including, developmental/stem cell biology, bone/dental biology, angiogenesis and inflammation, signaling pathway study, 3D cell culture, and small animal surgical experiments is a plus. The successful candidates must be highly self-motivated, hard-working, and independent while willing to collaborate with others in an interdisciplinary group. We will provide a highly supportive environment and state-of-art facilities & resource (http://www.usd.edu/arts-and-scie ... ng/instrumentation) for the postdoctoral fellow to achieve high productivity and success. Plenty of opportunities to supervise under/graduate students and collaborate with scientists from multi-disciplinary fields (e.g., bone and cancer biologists, materials scientist, chemists, orthopedic surgeon, and engineers) will also be available to facilitate his/her independent career development. The position is initially for one year, with second-year renewal option dependent upon performance and grant funding. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
