PhD Scholarship in Chemical Engineering at Monash University The Opportunity - fully funded PhD scholarship available for immediate start We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a multi-disciplinary team to explore opportunities in health-related products derived from milk in partnership with a leading dairy company. One fully-funded PhD scholarship (living allowance and tuition fee if applicable) will be awarded to the successful candidate. Applicants should hold a Bachelor Degree with Honours or Masters degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Food Science and Technology, Biomedical science or other relevant fields. It¡¯s essential that the candidate has a strong background in biochemical engineering and protein biochemistry. Additional skills and interests in dairy and food science, hydrolysates, nutrition, pharmacology and/or manufacturing are highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate that their current level of English language proficiency meets Monash¡¯s minimum entry requirements, for instance, the minimum IELTS overall score of 6.5 and writing score of 6.0 (http://www.mrgs.monash.edu.au/fu ... lity/langprof.html) Project Description This project will work with an industrial partner to develop novel nutritional and functional protein peptide hydrolysates for use as ingredients in health and medical foods, dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals. It will discover new knowledge for producing functional protein peptides using bioprocessing principles, identify bioactive ingredients and evaluate their activity and health benefits using relevant cell/animal models. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team at Monash University, collaborating closely with the Industry Partner which is a leading company in the dairy sector. Through the project, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive multidisciplinary skills ranging from bioprocessing and food technology to health and nutrition. Applicants must show excellent communication and inter-personal skills, willingness to travel (including regular site visits and industry internship during the course of their projects), and are interested to explore future careers in the food manufacturing industry. Note: applicants who already hold a PhD will not be considered. Faculty / Portfolio: Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering Location: Clayton campus, Monash University Supervisors: Dr Lizhong He and A/Prof. Victoria Haritos Remuneration: $26,682 p.a. full-time rate (pro-rata).
