Abstract: The safety of a long stored solid rocket motor was evaluated. The solid rocket motor (SRM) stored 18 years was disassembled. The safety of the long stored SRM was evaluated experimentally. Firstly, the mechanical properties and the sensitivity of the propellant were measured, and the popping experiment of the propellant and grain was carried out. The propellant stored 4 years was adopted as comparative sample. This shows that the mechanical sensitivity of the propellant was increased. The aged propellant is broken up badly in popping experiment. The RSM stored 18 years has a tendency to explosion under the popping condition. The vulnerability of the SRM stored 18 years has a remarkable change.
