1. Recruitment Details
Dr. Yuan Ma from the Department of Chemistry at Rice University is now seeking several postdoctoral researchers and Ph.D. students.
The research group is dedicated to developing chemical biology tools for interdisciplinary research in chemistry, biology, and biomedical applications. The main research directions of the lab include:
(1) Developing chemical biology tools for in situ studies of RNA/Protein, such as Biosensors, Bioimaging, Proximity labeling, Spatial omics, etc.;
(2) Exploring the biological mechanisms of RNA/Protein and their relationships with diseases;
(3) Using RNA/proteins as biomarkers to develop early detection methods for diseases.
Students interested in chemical biology are welcome to join. For more information, please contact us via email (yuanma1919@gmail.com) and include “Postdoc_Name” in the email subject.
2. Advisor Introduction
Dr. Yuan Ma, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry at Rice University, serves as Kenneth S. Pitzer-Schlumberger Junior Faculty Chair, and Norman Hackerman-Welch Young Investigator.
Dr. Ma completed her undergraduate studies at Nanjing University, supervised by Professor Jin Zhu from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Nanjing University (recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars); earned her Ph.D. from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University under Professor Deyue Yan (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor Xinyuan Zhu (Chang Jiang Scholar, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University), and Professor Chuan Zhang (recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars), with a research focus on the development of nanomedicines and DNA nanotechnology. Dr. Ma\'s postdoctoral research was conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Chemistry under Professor Yi Lu (Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors), focusing on the development of bioimaging techniques to study glycoRNAs and metabolites, screening novel nucleic acid aptamers.
In recent years, Dr. Ma has published over 14 papers as the first author or co-first author in international journals, including Nature Biotechnology, Nature Reviews Cancer, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Chemical Science, Journal of Controlled Release, etc. Dr. Ma has co-authored 11 papers, including Science Advances, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Journal of the American Chemical Society, ACS Central Science, etc.
3. University Overview
Rice University is one of the top private research universities in the United States, ranked 17th in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report for national research universities. Located in Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S., the laboratory is adjacent to the world’s largest biomedical center, including MD Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine among over a dozen top biomedical research institutions. Rice University has made significant contributions in the fields of materials science, nanoscience, and artificial heart research. |
