Postdoc/PhD/RA in Atmospheric Chemistry at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
香港理工大学大气化学方向招聘博士后/博士/科研助理
The Atmospheric Research Laboratory (Lab-in-Charge: Prof. Tao Wang) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University encourages applications for two Postdoc and two PhD/Research Assistant. The successful candidates will work on two recently funded RGC projects on tropospheric reactive halogen and sulfur chemistry. The candidates should hold a degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline. Any experience in laboratory experiments, field measurements, and numerical modeling is desirable. Individuals with chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS) or GEOS-Chem modeling experience are strongly encouraged to apply. The Postdoc/RA positions are offered for 1 year starting 01/01/2022 (flexible) and can be renewed for another year depending on job performance. Competitive salaries will be offered (PhD: ~18,000 HKD/month, ~27,000 HKD/month for outstanding candidates (Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme); Postdoc/RA: negotiable). To apply, please send your CV and a short (1~2 pages) research/personal statement to Dr. Qianjie Chen (qianjie.chen@polyu.edu.hk) or Prof. Tao Wang (tao.wang@polyu.edu.hk).
Project #1: Tropospheric halogen – sulfur interactions. Tasks: (1) laboratory experiments to determine the reaction rate constant; (2) GEOS-Chem modeling of tropospheric sulfur and reactive halogen chemistry; (3) laboratory measurements of sulfate oxygen isotopes. You will have the opportunity to visit University of Washington for 3 months to learn sulfate oxygen isotope measurements.
Project #2: Reactive halogen impacts on wintertime air quality. Tasks: (1) further improvement of CIMS techniques for measurements of reactive halogens; (2) field campaign in coal-impacted regions in the North China Plain; (3) laboratory experiments to investigate the emission and secondary production of reactive halogens from coal burning.
