How do you like your adviser, dear graduate student?

I want to write a multiple choice one, but I found I could not. Why? As a graduate student, or having ever being one, how do you like your adviser？ If we put a scale from 0 to 10, 0 for completely dislike, 10 for completely like, please put your answer here. 0- Completely dislike my adviser. 10- Completely like my adviser. Also, if you like to share the story between you and your (ex)-adviser, I will give you more Jinbi.  I would like to share such a story. I ever had two advisers, one for graduate, anther for Ph D study. I would like to talk about my graduate adviser. When I first met him, I thought he was a good guy. He taught me many things, advised me about my field and lab work. But, about 10 days before my defense of the thesis, he changed completely. I was so astonished, I did not know what I should do. He said, your thesis was too bad for the defense, your defense should be postponed. As a student, I have never imagined this would happened. I was so, so, so astonished. My girl friend talked with me, and helped me to find the reason. So many years have passed by. I do not have any feeling about my ex-adviser, bad or good. So, if I make a choice here, it should be 5. At that time, some people, including my girlfriend, told me that my adviser may implied you should do something more, such as buying things for him, that should be something expensive. But, I did not do it. Because I was not sure is he meant this. And at that time, I was economically poor. About two days before the deadline set up by the university, he said, you can do you defense tomorrow. I got my thesis back from him, with only a few corrections by him. This is the story. |
