美国Rice大学生物工程系招聘(Visiting Postdoctoral Scientist Position Available)
Visiting Postdoctoral Scientist Position Available
Job Description
The McHugh Lab in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University (Houston, Texas, USA) is seeking a visiting postdoctoral scientist who has secured independent funding for a one- or two-year appointment. This highly interdisciplinary position will focus on the development of tissue engineering scaffolds using multi-photon 3D printing with custom polymeric inks. Our goal is to use novel polymeric inks and advanced 3D printing methods to fabricate scaffolds that induce the self-assembly of multiple cell types and create functional tissues. Although this approach could ultimately be used to engineer numerous therapeutically relevant tissues, the initial phase of the project will focus on generating blood vessels that are a prerequisite for the development of macroscopic tissues, including whole organs. This experience will be particularly valuable for those who are interested in an independent academic career.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Lead a tissue engineering project at the interface of additive manufacturing and molecular biology
• Design studies, conduct experiments, and analyze data
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
• Present their work at scientific conferences
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be creative, highly motivated, and have a passion for performing translational research. Given the relatively short duration, the successful applicant should place the highest priority on quickly generating data that can be the basis for both publications and grants. Those with expertise in tissue engineering, cell biology, 3D printing, and computer-aided design are especially encouraged to apply. The starting date is negotiable but should be within the next 6 months and ideally sooner.
If interested in this opportunity, please email Dr. McHugh (kevin.mchugh@rice.edu) with “Visiting Postdoctoral Scientist Position” in the subject line along with:
1. A cover letter describing your scientific experience, interests, and career goals
2. Curriculum vitae
3. Contact information for 3-5 professional references (to be contacted following an interview)
Additional Information
The McHugh Lab is located in the BioSciences Research Collaborative (BRC) building at the intersection of Rice University’s campus and the Texas Medical Center. As such, it is uniquely positioned to pursue translational research with the goal of moving devices into the clinic as quickly as possible. Our current collaborators reside in institutions including MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Baylor College of Medicine. Rice University is a private, comprehensive research university located in the heart of Houston’s dynamic Museum District and adjacent to the Texas Medical Center. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees across eight schools and has a student body of approximately 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Rice consistently ranks among the top 20 national universities and the top 10 in undergraduate teaching (US News & World Report); its endowment ranks among the top 20 of US universities. The George R. Brown School of Engineering ranks among the top 20 of undergraduate engineering programs and is strongly committed to nurturing the aspirations of faculty, staff and students in an inclusive environment. Rice University is an Equal Opportunity Employer with a commitment to diversity at all levels and considers for employment qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, genetic information, disability, or protected veteran status.
