【Boston College, 2019】Postdoctoral Fellow positions in Directed Evolution

Two postdoctoral positions are immediately available in Prof. Jia Niu’s laboratory in the Department of Chemistry at Boston College. Working on the interdisciplinary front spanning chemistry, biochemistry, and synthetic biology, the Niu research group aims to develop new tools for the investigation and regulation of key biochemical processes. The postdoctoral fellows will lead a project to create genomic editing tools to regulate gene expression and molecular recognition using molecular evolution principles. Highly motivated individuals with strong backgrounds in either of the following areas are encouraged to apply: molecular biology, molecular cloning, protein engineering, natural product biosynthesis, and mammalian cell culture. The candidates should also be capable of working independently and willing to collaborate, and can communicate in good written and oral English. Interested candidates should submit their cover letter, CV, contact information for references, and a list of publications to Prof. Jia Niu (jia.niu@bc.edu). About Prof. Jia Niu: Dr. Jia Niu is currently an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Boston College. Jia studied at the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with the highest honor in 2005. After completing a Master of Science degree with Professor Xi Zhang in 2008, also at Tsinghua, he moved to the United States and joined Professor David R. Liu\'s group at Harvard University to pursue a Ph.D. degree. In the Liu group he developed an enzyme-free strategy capable of translating DNA templates to sequence-defined synthetic polymers structurally unrelated to nucleic acids -- essentially a translation system for polymers that does not need ribosomes. In 2014 he moved to University of California, Santa Barbara and became a joint postdoctoral fellow with Professor Craig J. Hawker and Professor H. Tom Soh. Jia joined the faculty at Department of Chemistry, Boston College in the summer of 2017. His lab is focused on developing synthetic macromolecular tools for the investigation and regulation of a wide range of biochemical processes. Jia has been the corresponding or first author of a number of papers published on high-impact journals such as Nature Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewante Chemie International Edition, etc.  |
