Tulane University, Neuroscience, Post-Doctoral Position
Job Title: Postdoctoral fellow, Neuroscience
Location: Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
Position Type: Full Time
Required Education: Doctorate
Areas of Expertise Desired: Neuroscience/Vascular Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease research
Description
A postdoctoral fellow position is available to work on a project for neuroprotection therapies that target brain including vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. We use a multidisciplinary approach that involves molecular biology, biochemical techniques and stem cell transplantation into mice that are predisposed to develop neurovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
The types of human neural stem cells we are evaluating include cells isolated directly from the brain and indirectly derived from nonneural stem cells such as embryonic stem cells or induced pluripotent stem cells (Lee et al, Nature Medicine. 2007; Huang et al (Lee Lab), Stem Cell Res Ther, 2014; Eckert et al (Lee Lab), Stem Cells Trans Med, 2015), Stem Cell Res Ther, 2018; Boese et al (Lee Lab).
We seek to identify the best sources of stem cells for various therapies, combinatory therapies strategies, that will synergize with stem cell modalities, determine the mechanisms involved in stem cell migration, role of the inflammatory components that contribute to the symptoms of these diseases, anti-inflammatory role of stem cells and reducing blood-brain barrier damage.
Preferred Candidates will be a Ph.D., M.D., or both with a relevant background either in Neuroscience or Molecular Biology.
