Thank you for submitting the above manuscript to Carbohydrate Polymers. We have now received the reviewers' reports, and regrettably I must inform you that the manuscript is not acceptable for publication in its present form, and requires major revision before it can be reconsidered for publication.
Dear Dr. : thank you for submitting your manuscript to Carbohydrate Polymers. I find that it is possible that it might be of interest to our readers, but that it does not meet journal standards in several respects. I find no statement of hypothesis in the introduction, and therefore no discussion in the conclusions as to whether your work confirmed or refuted your starting hypothesis; both are required by the journal. Chemical characterization of your natural polysaccharide derivatives does not fully meet journal standards. Both requirements are carefully described in the guide for authors. Novelty of the work is unclear as written; the absence of a clear, concise, declarative statement of hypothesis is also harmful in this respect. Some aspects of writing are in need of improvement. Please do not use superlatives in describing polysaccharide abundance; it is not scientific to say one polysaccharide is "most abundant" (and few others would agree that chitin is more
abundant than cellulose (or perhaps other polysaccharides). There are also too many passages of substantial length that are overly similar to passages in previously published works. This is not acceptable to the editors and publisher of the journal. I look forward to receiving your revised manuscript.
