Ph.D. positions for hydro-informatics
Applications are invited for two Ph.D. student positions in the hydro-informatics research lab of Dr. Roger (Ruo-Qian) Wang at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Rutgers University (https://cee.rutgers.edu/). The research projects will be 1) the application of machine learning and data-driven analysis for coastal and environmental modeling, and 2) data fusion and data assimilation of the emerging social media, Internet of Things, and remote sensing data in the field of natural hazards. The Ph.D. candidates will have opportunities to learn and develop novel data-driven methods to analyze high-fidelity numerical models of coastal and hydro-environmental problems and create big data methods of disaster monitoring and mitigation. All the positions are fully funded and open to both international and domestic students.
A master or bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related fields is required. Priority will be given to candidates with a background in fluid mechanics, hydrology, numerical modeling, data science, and uncertainty quantification. Programming skills in Python, C++ or MATLAB are essential. Applicants with strong communication skills, especially experience in scientific writing and presentation are preferable. The positions will be open until filled. The student is expected to start in spring or fall 2019. The interested students should send his/her CV to Dr. Wang (wangruoqian@gmail.com) for further guidance of application.
