Center for Biosignatures Discovery, Arizona State University, USA, invites applications for a Postdoc position ▪ Job type: full-time ▪ Available immediately. ▪ Require U.S. work authorization ▪ The appointment is initially for 24 months with the possibility of an extension. This focus of the project is to develop a low-cost, low-power autonomous microbiological analyzer for large-scale, in situ robotic quantification of marine microorganisms. The key vision of this work is that incorporation of new, cutting-edge biomedical technologies into ocean samplers has the potential to enable significant cost reductions, enabling larger networks of automated genetic sensors. Lower cost instruments enable the involvement of a greater number of independent scientists and provide opportunities for exciting, new experimental designs. We provide the possibility to perform research in an exciting interdisciplinary environment using very well equipped laboratories. Job description The successful candidate will conduct research on microfluidic systems for LAMP analysis. Required qualifications and experience: ▪ A PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. Physics, Engineering). ▪ Research experience in designing and implementing innovated microfluidics. ▪ Experience with Laser system for plastic patterning and cutting. ▪ Excellent AutoCAD and SolidWorks skills. ▪ Ability to conduct independent research projects. ▪ Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. ▪ Excellent problem-solving skills. ▪ Experience with microfabrication (e.g. lithography, etching) and wafer dicing. ▪ Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Preferred experience: ▪ Experience with 3D printer, thermal forming, laser cutting and/or conventional machining. ▪ Exposure to microbiology, cell biology and molecular biology.
