[土木系招生] Ph.D. positions with full financial support in MTU, USA已有1人参与

Ph.D. positions with full financial support (including both tuition and a stipend of over $1900 per month) will be available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan Tech starting from summer 2018. The admitted student will work with Prof. Zhen Liu in the general area of Civil Engineering with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering. The current research of Prof. Liu’s group (www.liurg.org) focuses on the multiphysics and multiscale simulation and innovative characterization of porous materials. Existing efforts include multiphysics simulations of sustainable infrastructure, critical material properties and other energy geotechnics related processes, integration of atomic-scale simulation and macroscopic-scale mechanics of multiphase porous materials, and innovative characterization using TDR, FD, ultrasonic sensors and tensiometers. Other cutting-edge research topics will also be investigated based on the availability of funding and the student’s interest. The student(s) is expected to work with Prof. Liu on the emerging areas of intelligent geotechnical engineering and resilient engineering systems. Candidates with backgrounds in relevant areas, such as civil engineering, engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, mathematics, industrial engineering, and computer science are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of basic engineering mechanics may be needed. Interest and proficiency in programming with computer languages such as Python, Matlab, C/C++, Java, and FORTRAN in Unix/Linux environments and experience with front-end and back-end web design and software/app development will be a bonus. For GRE and TOEFL (if not native English speaker), please refer to Michigan Tech’s requirements. Highly motivated students with an ambitious academic goal are highly desired. LiuRG is a research group devoted to cutting-edge and challenging scientific and engineering problems. Candidates with strong background in mechanics such as continuum mechanics (elasticity, plasticity), micromechanics, molecular dynamics, classical mechanics, and numerical analysis (coding and theory level) are also welcome.
