With advantages of wide adaptability, high output, reliable operation and easy maintenance, steel ball coal mill has been widely applied in coal-fired power generation, cement industry and milling industry, etc. However, it is subjected to disadvantages such as high power consumption, large noise, as well as wideness, nonliearilty and large lag of noise band, conventional technologies cannot realize optimal effect of energy conservation and noise reduction. On this basis, it is necessary to develop a reasonable scheme for energy conservation and noise reduction of steel ball coal mill.

In order to realize energy conservation and noise reduction of MTZ3258 thermoelectric ball mill in 2# furnace of Jinchuan thermal power plant second workshop, this paper analyzes the working principle of ball mill as well as the mechanisms of noise generation and transmission, and develops a set of reasonable schemes for energy conservation and noise reduction of ball mill by fully considering the complement relation between energy conservation and noise reduction.

In terms of energy conservation. First, the scheme is focused on optimizing the control of ball milling process, to guarantee the optimal working condition, improve the output, reduce energy consumption and minimize the noise of ball mill; second, a technique of automatic adding and screening steel ball is proposed to remove the ineffective steel balls, reduce energy consumption, reduce collisions among steel ball, lining plate and coal block, so as to reduce the noise sources of ball mill.

In terms of noise reduction. First, a rubber lining is used to reduce the impact time between steel ball and lining plate, reduce the shock force applied on lining plate and its vibration intensity, reduce noise intensity, and control the vibration intensity of ball mill sound source; second, a sound-proof shield is added exteranlly on the ball mill to absorb, reflect and isolate noise. To make sure the energy conservation and noise reduction scheme is realiable, the sound field of sound-proof shield was simulated using COMSOL software to verify the advantgeous performance of proposed scheme in noise reduction.

Currently, such scheme has been applied for MTZ3258 ball mill in 2# furnace of Jinchuan thermal power plant second workshop. Through comparative analysis of data before and after implemenating energy conservation and noise reduction scheme, it can be known that the noise intensity of ball mill is decreased by 28 dB by average, coal mill unit consumption is reduced by 15.28346%, which basically meets the target of energy conservation and noise reduction. This study provides an effective solution to the energy conservation and noise reduction of ball mill.
