The process of securing grant money, venture capital investment, or corporate R&D funding often includes the proposed use of novel bioconjugates as key components in reaching technical goals. Indeed, many of the largest pharmaceutical and biotech companies now depend upon bioconjugation to design their future product pipelines and maintain a vital edge over the competition. The “magic bullet” and “targeted drug” concepts often desired in drug development are heavily contingent on the creation of highly specific bioconjugates with therapeutic efficacy toward certain cells, tissues, or disease states.
