The Department Physiology (http://www.augusta.edu/mcg/phy/) at The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research scholar position. This position will be involved in conducting molecular, biochemical, physiological and genetic analyses using in vitro cellular and in vivo animal models, writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, reports, and for presentation to academic and community audiences. The candidate will also gain experience in grantsmanship, as well as research design, planning, and execution.

Dr. Weiqin Chen’s research focuses on elucidating the biological mechanisms underlying adipose tissue development in obesity and lipodystrophy. She is also interested in understanding the metabolic diseases such as insulin resistance, diabetes, fatty liver and cardiometabolic diseases associated with adipose tissue excess (obesity) and deficiency (lipodystrophy). The lab also used cutting edge techniques like large-scale “-Omics”, genomic editing and advanced imaging using cells and mice as models. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in biomedical sciences. Applicants with a doctoral degree in another discipline may be considered if they possess adequate skills to conduct biomedical research. Preferred skills and experiences include animal genetics, molecular biology, cell signaling and metabolism. Prior experience in adipose tissue and metabolism is a plus. Candidates seeking their first postdoctoral position will be given top priority.
