RWTH Aachen University:
With 31,400 students and 10,000 employees, RWTH Aachen University is one of the leading universities and also the largest employer and training body in the region. Its teaching and research are closely connected to industry and are characterised by an international, innovative and interdisciplinary approach
Our Profile:
The Shock Wave Laboratory (SWL) is one of the premier institutes of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.
The research strengths of the institute are primarily in Fluid dynamics in addition to Fuel and combustion research.
The Institute participates actively in an interdisciplinary research approach towards new, biomass-based synthetic fuels as well as traditional fossil fuels to access their potential and challenges in future advanced engines.
Currently, combustion and ignition properties of fuels are investigated employing state-of the-art high pressure experimental techniques such as shock tubes, rapid compression machine and flow reactors. The results are integrated with detailed theory and kinetic modeling.
Job Description:
A Ph.D and a Postdoc position are currently available in a collaborative project deeply investigating the combustion characteristics of traditional and novel fuels.
The primary focus of this project is experimental determination of ignition delays using both high pressure shock tubes and Rapid Compression Machine (RCM).
The candidate is expected to be team oriented, motivated and will have extensive interactions with ongoing modeling efforts with collaborators.
Your Profile:
For PhD position:
The applicant must hold a recognised Master’s degree or a German University Diploma in Physical chemistry, Physics, Mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
Knowledge of combustion chemistry and chemical-kinetics with a strong experimental background is beneficial.
For Postdoc position:
The applicant must hold a PhD in Physical chemistry, Mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
Familiarity with chemical-kinetics, knowledge of combustion chemistry or diagnostics, high pressure techniques with a strong experimental background is desired. Considerable experience with design of experimental equipment is preferred. Experience with Shock tubes and/or Rapid Compression Machine is beneficial.
Our Offer:
For both positions, the candidates will be regular employees for an initial fixed term of 2 years with a possibility of extension for another two years. This is a full-time position and the salary is according to the Public service salary scale TV-L/ E 13 details depending on the age, status and experience of the candidate.
Applications from female candidates are explicitly welcome.
