POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN ICE-OCEAN MODELING

The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC, Bergen, Norway) offers a Post-doc on ice-ocean modeling. The main goal is to include the effects of waves-in-ice into the ice-ocean model system in use at NERSC. This work will be realized in collaboration with our partners from New Zealand (University of Otago and NIWA) responsible for waves-in-ice modeling. Data from field experiments and from satellites will be used for validation. The waves-in-ice module developed during the project is intended to be integrated into the TOPAZ system for real-time forecasting and reanalysis of the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans (see http://topaz.nersc.no). The work is a follow-up of the previous MIZ project funded by TOTAL E&P during which a collisional rheology for the Marginal Ice Zone was tested in two realistic configurations of the HYCOM model in the Fram Strait and the Barents Sea. The successful applicant will work in a dynamic modeling team of 15 researchers and will participate in collaborative project work with Norwegian and international scientists. The project has access to national NOTUR2 supercomputing facilities including the 5500 processors of a Cray XT4 at Parallab, Bergen. There are also possibilities to participate to oceanographic cruises.

The post-doc is funded by the WIFAR project, supported by the Research Council of Norway (PETROMAKS program) and TOTAL E&P with the salary in accord with the RCN’s arrangements for postdoctoral positions. The position will start on 1st January 2011, preferably earlier, and for two years duration with a possible extension for one further year.

The candidate should hold a PhD and have experience with numerical modelling of sea ice. Candidates with experience in developing ocean, waves or atmospheric models will also be considered. Female applicants are encouraged to apply and will be given priority for equal level of qualifications.

Applications should include a CV, a publication list and the names of at least two references, and be sent to Laurent Bertino (laurent.bertino"at"nersc.no), with a copy to Johnny A. Johannessen (johnny.johannessen"at"nersc.no).

The deadline for applications is 1st September 2010.

More information about the WIFAR project can be found at http://msc.nersc.no/?q=wifar. 返回小木虫查看更多
