Applications are invited for a Research Associate position within the
Climate Change Research Centre, Faculty of Science, University of New
South Wales, Sydney.

Salary Level A: A$71,250 - A$76,209 per year, plus 17% employer
superannuation, plus leave loading.

The CCRC was recently awarded funding through the ARC Linkage scheme for
a project entitled "Transforming our research capacity in the analysis
of climate extremes". The Research Associate will: aid in the assembly
and analysis of global datasets of temperature and rainfall extremes;
assess how well climate models reproduce these extremes; and answer
fundamental questions about the overarching mechanisms driving these
events. We are therefore seeking a researcher with expertise in areas
such as dataset development, model/observation comparison, or climate
modelling. In addition it would be advantageous for the researcher to
have a strong background in statistics, particularly in the areas of
extreme value theory and/or statistical climatology.

This is an international collaborative project with the University of
Melbourne, Climate Research Division of Environment Canada and NOAA's
National Climatic Data Center with a substantial cash contribution from
the Australian Government's Department of Climate Change Energy and
Environment. Funding is also available for the successful candidate for
collaborative visits to each of the partner institutions over the course
of the project. There is scope for the successful candidate to shape a
role that suits their particular strengths, background and interests
within the overall parameters of the research project.

This is a full time position (35 hours per week), fixed term for three
years. Starting date is negotiable, though preferably on or before 1st
October 2010.
