A visiting scholar to Yale University, Cornell University, and Columbia University and a scientist with many years of experience in tumor research, I have collaborated with Miss Ma Bin, who is currently seeking an advanced degree program at your prestigious graduate school, for a long period of time as her advisor. Our research institute consists of many individual divisions including the Immunological Division, Artificial Cell Division and Biomaterials Division. All the major experiment facilities in our institute are of first-rate international technological level and are virtually unparalleled within China. Since Miss Ma\'s entry into our laboratory, I have noticed that she has been an active figure. She is not only conscientious in her experiments but also likes to exercise her mental faculty to solve many problems for improving her experiment results. Her hands-on abilities are remarkable. Miss Ma has not only established a deep friendship with her teammates but also got along very well with the research members of other divisions. This is perhaps because she is always pleased to offer assistance to others. When others encounter difficulties in their experiments, she offers her suggestions for improvement. As long as she has time, she would go to help others when they cannot finish their experiments on time, whether those experiments are related to her projects or not. As a matter of fact, Miss Ma takes advantage of those occasions to assimilate valuable experiences from everybody that works with her.
Miss Ma seizes every opportunity to improve herself. In spite of her reticence, she can always be instrumental at critical moments. I appreciate such a student who has impressed me with her academic enthusiasm and the attitude with which she conducts her experiments. The Tianjin Institute of Hepato-Biliary Diseases is one of the best scientific institutes in medical research in the city. As professor and head of the institute, with many years of research and surgical experience, I am pleased to recommend Mr. Parkman Song, one of our employees, to pursue a graduate degree at your university.
I came to know Mr. Song when I treated his father for liver cancer six years ago. During these years, Mr. Song has made his progress from being a mere teenager to a college student, and then to a medical professional, while maintaining close contact with me all along. At the beginning, I was touched by the bravery and fortitude of this young man when facing a major catastrophe in his life. By necessity, he worked part-time for us as a lab assistant during his college years, and was involved in a number of projects on liver transplantation, the ras, p53 gene mutation in liver cancer, and the testing of p53 gene mutation in liver cancer as well. We also carried out a molecular research on the hepatitis virus related to liver cancer. In the process of all these research projects I found Mr. Song a highly intelligent research worker. He has solid educational background in Biomedicine, and has become thoroughly adapted to the lab environment. This is why when he asked for a position in our institute after completing his college education, we accepted him without hesitation.
At present, he is a member of our research team for a project on the AAV and gene therapy for liver cancer. So far Mr. Song has done important work for the progress of the project. To be more efficient, he in fact often lives in the lab for several days. Touched by the dedication of this young colleague, I sometimes urge him to take more rest. Mr. Song assured me that he is well aware how valuable time is for research. "I\'m trying to learn as much as possible," he said, "while I\'m still young and can learn things fast."
Among all the graduate students I have ever had, I can only find a few who are as outstanding as Mr. Song. I would be happy to have him as my student. But I also strongly support his effort to pursue an advanced degree abroad, which is, I agree, a better choice for his career. I hope that his application will receive your serious attention; indeed, the talent and diligence of this bright young man may bring you many pleasant surprises.

I am professor at Shenyang Medical University of China, and was Ms. Olivia Li\'s Advisor for her graduation thesis. Now I am pleased to recommend her to your Ph.D. program in Pharmaceutics.
During the one-year period while Ms. Li worked with me on her thesis project, she impressed me deeply as a highly motivated, goal-oriented student of lively personality and creativity. She was a member of our research group for a project I was in charge of in developing a sustained release preparation for a compound herbal medicine. Since part of the compound substance was volatile, the project temporarily came to a halt. Ms. Li tackled the problem, under my direction, and thus assumed an important role in the research team. She spent many hours looking up technical literature, and proposed a novel solution with satisfying results. All along, I found Ms. Li a fine research worker of uncompromising scientific rigor and adventurous spirit. She has also demonstrated a solid educational background and a remarkable ability in lab experimentation. In addition, she has an excellent command of English, which is rather uncommon among undergraduate students. She can read professional journals and documents in English without any problem, and can carry a conversation with native speakers of English easily.
As her teacher and former Advisor, I am proud of Ms. Li for her academic achievements. She certainly stands out as a student of great potential. Since the study and research in Pharmaceutics in China are still below international standards, I personally believe that it will be to Ms. Li\'s best interest to enter a graduate degree program in Pharmaceutics in a technologically advanced country. And I have no doubt that Ms. Li will take full advantage of this precious opportunity to make herself a first-rate pharmacist.
